What is Better YOUniversity
Better YOUniversity was conceived in 2023 by sociologist Bertice Berry Ph.D. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when five of her friends asked for her help to get through the mental strains of the pandemic, Berry began to share daily stories through social media. Unaware that her posts were "Public", Berry was stunned to learn that the stories had gone viral. Thousands, then millions of people were being inspired daily.
She planned to stop when things got better, but realized there was a core group who could be described as Lifelong Learners." They wanted to know more about race, self-care, social structure and all kinds of topics that Berry had only been able to touch upon. Dr. Berry launched the platform with Diversity & Belonging 101 and immediately knew that these super learners were hungry for more.
Better YOUniversity is about becoming a better you. It enables the user to learn from some of the best, to become their best. Better YOUniversity is self-paced, allowing each person to learn and go further at their own speed.
"Some of the things we want to discuss in public demand that we have a private education first. The world has been racially, socioeconomically, religiously and sexually adjacent for too long. We are in rooms together, but still know very little about one another, making our interactions clumsy at best and offensive at worst." Berry says.
Better YOUniversity seeks to break down barriers and build bridges of knowledge, inspiration, and understanding. Become a better you, with Better YOUniversity.

Excellent course. I learned a lot about myself and how I view this world. With this clarity I now feel I can help foster a culture of belonging. This course also provided lots of material to help with continued personal growth and understanding on this topic.

This past weekend I experienced the course. I choose the word "experienced" as opposed to "took" because I'm still immersed in the wealth of information and self-discovery I encountered. This course is for anyone who may wonder how they "fit"... not just at work, but in their home, family and community. It's a true eye-opener. Leave all perceptions at the proverbial doorstep. The suggested materials alone are worth the cost. Take your time. This is not a quick fix. It's a beginning.

Dr. Berry thank you for offering this class!
I've watched your course twice now. My narrow idea of diversity and belonging always had me thinking I was doing the right thing by reaching out to others.
Before I retired, diversity was mostly the number on a demographic report and whether we had "enough"
African Americans or Asians in our classrooms.
Constantly reaching out to pull others into my life so that I wouldn't feel guilty about them being on the outside. I realize I was sort of mentally patting myself on the shoulder because I had helped them. Now I see that I was really never digging deeply for the more valuable connections. Connections that will reflect back to me and help me to see "me" more clearly. Though I still reach out to others to include them, the course has helped me to go so much further. You have challenged me to look inside the mirror. To look inside. I've always loved learning. This course has set me up for critical thinking about myself and how that ties me to others. I'm yearning now not to only see others, but get to know others, starting in my own family. Hopefully on a much more connected than I ever knew. Thanks again.
